Apparently, some scammers are using that to try to trick people into letting them onto their land to shoot deer in Kerrville.
The Kerrville Police Department is warning residents that people claiming to be with Texas A&M University are asking residents to shoot deer in their yard.
Kerrville police say these individuals are asking people to shoot the deer so they can test them for chronic wasting disease.
The individuals claim they’re employees from Texas A&M University.
Kerrville police say the people are not with Texas A&M University and have no authority to be in the area.
Chronic wasting disease, according to the CDC, happens between animals through contact with a bodily fluid, or spread indirectly through their environment. It’s a neurological disease that can decimate a deer, elk or moose herd.
There are areas of the state where chronic wasting disease is a problem, and some cases have been reported in the Kerrville area, but mainly in breeding facilities. It’s not believed to be widespread right now.
