Killeen man indicted on animal cruelty charge after dog removed from home

A Grand Jury has indicted a Killeen man after a dog was removed from his home with a missing paw and appearing “extremely underfed.”

KILLEEN, Texas — A Killeen man has been indicted on an animal cruelty charge in the case of a dog that was removed from his home in July.

Jeffrey Yuzon Ignacio was indicted by a Bell County Grand Jury on Wednesday, Aug. 6 on a charge of cruelty to a non-livestock animal-serious bodily injury, according to court documents.

Ignacio was arrested on July 5 on outstanding warrants, according to police. After his arrest, a 13-year-old pitbull was removed from Igancio’s home, following numerous reported attempts from police to get him to surrender the dog.

Police stated the dog, now named Cyrus, looked “extremely underfed,” and was completely missing the paw and hock on its hind right leg. Police stated Ignacio had posted videos and pictures to social media of Cyrus, then named Dubz, “obviously suffering” and asking for donations.

Police stated they found Cyrus lying on a used mattress surrounded by feces and urine, with a water bowl far enough away that he would have to crawl on his injured leg to reach it.

Cyrus has since received treatment at Veterinary Emergency Group in Austin and has been taken in by Jack Jack’s Pack Street Dog Rescue, a Central Texas nonprofit that works to help dogs in need.
