The two died when the four-seat chopper they were in crashed on Thursday afternoon. The cause is still under investigation.
SAN ANTONIO — Authorities have identified the two victims of last week’s helicopter crash in Kinney County as a 31-year-old Uvalde resident and a 53-year-old man visiting from Brooksville, Florida.
Officials said William Garrett Robertson and Earle Blakely Hunnicutt were killed when the four-seat Robinson R44 chopper Robertson was piloting came down around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday. The aircraft crashed on a private property about 12 miles west of Uvalde, along Highway 90.
Robertson and Hunnicutt were the only two people onboard, according to authorities. They were surveying game over the Harris Ranch when the emergency unfolded.
“They’ve flown for us over at our ranch, so very experienced guys,” said Kinney County Judge John Paul Schuster. “I don’t know, freak deal, sad deal.”
As for what happened that caused the helicopter to come down, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating. They’re asking that anyone who may have surveillance video or other information “that could be relevant to the investigation” contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.
A preliminary report on the crash is expected by the end of March.
