The Spurs fall short in the 2025 NBA Cup Finals, losing to the Knicks.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost to the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Cup Finals in Las Vegas. Dylan Harper led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Off the bench, Victor Wembanyama had 18 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes. Keldon Johnson scored three, De’Aaron Fox recorded 16, and Julian Champagnie had three and eight rebounds. Harrison Barnes added 11 points and three rebounds. Stephon Castle had 15 points and 12 assists.
The Spurs were outscored in the fourth quarter 35-19 and shot just 35% in the second half.
The Spurs are 18-7 and will next host the Wizards on Thursday night.
Here’s a sample of what the Spurs and Knicks said after the game.
Mitch Johnson:
“I think we struggled more as a team, so that probably played a part in that. We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds, which hurt us getting out and transition and I thought there were just a couple times we got a little bit in a rush in a hurry, not when we played with the appropriate pace, but with the right spacing and the right tempo. We got some really good looks and we missed them and I think it was probably more of a team thing than I thought Victor was individually struggling.”
“I think out there you see the level of intensity rise up for us and them. Obviously, they (Knicks) came out with the win, but for us it’s not taking anything for granted. I think it’s the biggest thing just when we all go out there, we all know that we got to go out there and play 110% in order to win things like this.”
Wembanyama:
“I guess it is the best practice for important games because our focus is already on the playoffs. The playoffs are going to be the biggest time of year. I guess it is good we got this experience today.”
Wembayama also noted he suffered a personal loss during the conference.
