New York Knicks fans have arrived in the Alamo City for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, expressing excitement in their team and some criticism of the home of the Spurs.
SAN ANTONIO — New York Knicks fans have been arriving in droves to the Alamo City for the first game of the NBA finals.
KENS 5 reporter Jeremy Baker took a trip downtown to talk to fans from the Empire State to hear how much faith they have in their Knicks.
“I think they’re all hiding. They must be scared for a reason,” said Mariano, a Spurs fan from San Antonio.
After about 30 minutes and his deadline approaching, Baker finally found Knicks fans and nationwide travelers Joe and Morgan.
What did they think about Spurs fans repeatedly screaming for their home team?
“I mean, we’re in their city. It’s normal. So we expect it,” they said.
“I mean, they’re kind of weak. I would be out in my city cheering, chanting us on,” said Knicks fan Maddie, who traveled here from New Jersey.
Like many out-of-towners, she said she’s here because the cheapest tickets on StubHub for Game 1 at the Frost Bank Center only cost $700, compared to Game 3 in New York City costing close to $5,000.
“That’s what we do because it’s cheaper for us to come here, fly down here, stay a night than it is got to get a ticket for Madison Square Garden,” said Art who traveled here with Maddie.
Knicks fans Chris and Carlos added, “That’s where we want to kind of take advantage of it down here. Kind of go down south and see what happens here.”
Maddie shared her thoughts on the Knicks but no without throwing in a diss about one of our city’s biggest tourist attractions.
“The River Walk is kind of empty. It’s pathetic,” she said.
We wholeheartedly disagree.
