La Pryor senior wins state title, breaks squat record in dominant performance

A La Pryor senior didn’t just win state — he broke a record and lifted more than 1,600 pounds to do it.

LA PRYOR, Texas — Sound the alarm, Bulldog Nation — La Pryor has a state champion.

Senior Moises Lopez is bringing home the gold after winning the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state title in the 181-pound weight class.

And he didn’t just win, he made history.

Lopez broke the state squat record, lifting an incredible 655 pounds as part of a dominant performance that totaled 1,630 pounds across all three lifts.

It’s a huge jump from last year, when Lopez placed fifth as a junior, already putting up impressive numbers.

Now, he’s on top of the podium.

The school is celebrating the milestone moment, calling it a proud achievement for the entire Bulldog community.

And for Lopez, it’s a finish worthy of a state champion.
