LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas — A dog rescued during an animal cruelty case in Lacy Lakeview has a new home, with the officer who has been caring for him.

The Lacy Lakeview Police Department said Officer Nathan Rodriguez has been taking “excellent” care of the dog, now named Chase. According to police, Rodriguez was awarded Chase at a seizure hearing on Thursday, Sept. 18, allowing him to take Chase home permanently.

Lacy Lakeview PD said Chase seems “very happy in his new home.”

Lacy Lakeview Police said on Sept. 8 that they had been made aware of a video appearing to show a person abusing a dog, hitting them and picking them up before throwing them to the ground. Police reportedly began working with the business in the video to identify the person in question.

A few days later, a 23-year-old, identified as Thomas Reynolds, turned himself in on a warrant for cruelty to a non-livestock animal, police said. After the initial hearing, it was discovered that Reynolds also had a warrant out of Pflugerville for robbery. Police said Reynolds was arrested for that warrant as well.
