Latest Antetokounmpo trade rumors; Spurs executive hyped for team’s immediate future

Giannis Antetokounmpo prefers to stay in the East if he is traded from Milwaukee.

SAN ANTONIO — Many San Antonio Spurs-Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors have speculated that the team will trade for the All-Star big man.

But does Giannis want to go West if he gets traded? According to a recent report, apparently not.

A report surfaced from ScoopB.com indicating, among other factors, that “The Greek Freak” wants to stay in the East.

If Giannis ever makes the leap and requests a trade — or if the Bucks see writing on the wall and explore preemptive options — he’ll want more than just a new jersey. I’m told he’s looking for three things:

  • Staying in the Eastern Conference, to keep his travel and media profile intact.
  • Being in a position of control, with a voice in roster building and coaching direction.
  • A market where other stars would want to join him — a place that isn’t just a destination for him, but could become a destination because of him.

If true, this would dismiss the Western Conference Spurs and dash any dreams of Giannis and Victor Wembanyama teaming up to make the Spurs an instant title contender.

According to the report, Toronto and Brooklyn would be his possible landing spots.

SPURS EXEC EXCITED FOR TEAM’S FUTURE

The 2025 NBA Combine is underway, and Spurs executives are in attendance to watch and evaluate the draft hopefuls.

One Spurs executive is thrilled about the franchise being “back” and about the many avenues the team can explore to become a powerhouse in the league.

“We’re back,” said a Spurs executive to ESPN.

Indeed, the Spurs are in a solid spot to return to the top of the NBA with their young core, franchise player Victor Wembanyama, and the ability to make trades with the amount of draft capital and players with team-friendly contracts to make deals to improve the roster.
