A once-celebrated educator with Boerne ISD has resigned after he was arrested on driving while intoxicated and firearms charges earlier this month.
In a statement sent to MySA, the district’s spokesperson Maggie Dominguez confirmed that Daniel Owen, who had been the principal at Boerne Middle School North, was no longer employed with the school district. His resignation was first reported by The Boerne Star.
Owen was arrested late Thursday June 5, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. He then posted a cash bond for a combined $10,000 bail on June 6 for the two charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
Per reporting from the San Antonio Express-News, the principal was arrested on DWI charges in 2001, but online records for the case are no longer available.
Just last fall, Owen was the recipient of a distinguished administrator award, according to school social media posts made by the school district.
“The community recognizes what you do for every student in our school & your dedicated support to our fine arts,” the district said.
