Bexar County residents remain divided on Prop B for a new Spurs arena, according to a UT San Antonio poll.
SAN ANTONIO — With the vote on Project Marvel looming and the future of a possible new San Antonio Spurs downtown arena in focus, a poll conducted by the UT San Antonio Center for Public Opinion Research (CPOR) reveals that Bexar County residents are lukewarm about a new home for the Silver and Black.
According to the poll’s results, Proposition B (which is about the proposed downtown arena) reflects support for the new arena unchanged from April, with about 40% in favor of using a venue tax to fund some of the cost.
However, people against it grew slightly to about 46%, up from 44% in April 2025. At the same time, 14% of voters remain unsure, according to the UT San Antonio’s Center for Public Opinion Research.
“That said, it’s fair to say that the effort to secure venue tax funding for a new Spurs arena faces an uphill battle,” said Bryan Gervais, UT San Antonio professor of political science and CPOR director.
Essentially, voters in Bexar County need to vote yes on Prop B ($311 million for a new downtown Spurs arena) to use the venue tax to extend an existing tax on rental cars and increase the county’s hotel tax to help fund the project, spread across contributions from the county, city and Spurs.
The poll showed that residents are more in favor of Proposition A, with 44% of voters supporting raising the Bexar County venue tax to fund the expansion of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo grounds.
