LEON VALLEY, Texas — The Leon Valley Mega Center driver license office has partially reopened after flooding caused by water pipe leaks forced a temporary closure that disrupted more than 3,000 appointments.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the office is currently serving a limited number of customers by appointment only while repairs continue. There is no timeline for when the facility will fully reopen.
The closure lasted about two weeks in mid-March, affecting thousands of scheduled visits at a location that typically serves 600 to 700 people per day. Appointments at the site are often booked as far as six months in advance.
Despite the disruption, some customers reported a smoother experience upon returning.
“It was nice to be welcomed in before even stepping into the building,” said Denva Alberto, who visited the office with her mother.
Her mother, Mary Franklin, said the process felt efficient.
“Normally you sit, you’ve got to wait … and you get frustrated,” Franklin said. “They come to you and ask, ‘When you’re done, just let me know.’ I’m like, ‘Wow, it’s different.’”
Both said they were able to complete their visit quickly and appreciated the level of assistance from staff.
“They work with you. They help you out,” Franklin said.
Alberto added that employees took extra time to explain requirements rather than turning customers away.
“They take the time to help you and talk with you and elaborate on things they need,” she said.
We received this statement from The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS):
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Leon Valley Mega Center Driver License (DL) Office has partially reopened and is temporarily serving a limited number of customers by appointment as flooding damage repairs remain underway. The department leases the building used for the Leon Valley Mega Center, and we are working closely with the property owner to return the office to full operational capacity. At this time, there is no timeline for when all repairs to this facility will be complete, and we will provide updates as they become available. Customers can check appointment availability and schedule their visit at the Leon Valley Mega Center, or another nearby DL Office location, on the DPS website.
Customers impacted by the Leon Valley Mega Center’s temporary closure last month were notified beginning March 16, 2026, about rescheduling their appointments for an alternative office location online, and DPS personnel provided additional support to those who needed additional assistance in that process.
