Leon Valley hosts first Blue Santa Softball Game so kids have gifts under the tree this holiday season

Beyond a win on the field, the real winners are children receiving gifts for the holidays.

LEON VALLEY, Texas — Saturday, batters stepped up to the plate in Leon Valley’s first annual Blue Santa Softball Game.

The teams were made up of all teachers and staff from two different Northside ISD schools.

The big game happened at the Don Hardin Athletic Complex between the Marshall High School Rams and O’Connor High School Panthers.

Beyond a win on the field, the real winners are children receiving gifts for the holidays.

“Our goal was to help out kids in the community, families in the community. and this has kind of turned into, you know, kind of took a life of its own.” said Organizer Adrian Gonzales.

Gonzales added the need is so great this year that they wanted to step to the plate and help.

“This is the biggest year that they’ve had families reach out to them. It’s usually around the 65 to 70 range. This year, it’s 150 families.” said Gonzalez.

Blue Santa threw out the first pitch, while the Grinch was only stealing bases and the teachers at both high schools definitely knocked it out of the park.

“We’re just out here supporting the kids. That’s the main thing. Bringing toys out to the community, to kids who may not have any toys for Christmas,” said Alonzo Sanchez, O’Connor staff member.

For anyone unable to see the game, you can still make a donation to both Marshall and O’Connor. They’re both accepting toys until Friday.
