Texas is going on two years since the trigger law went into effect following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade — a monumental court decision for abortion rights and women’s health care. Anti-abortion groups have since rallied together to fight against the inevitable pushback on the law.

This weekend, Texans from across the state are coming together in Austin at the Capitol for the annual Texas Rally for Life, an event that brings in over 5,000 life supporters. Churches, schools, and community groups will join the rally on Saturday, January 27, to share their message.

The march is set to begin on the north side of the Texas Capitol at 1 p.m., with the rally and speeches taking place on the south steps of the Capitol around 2 to 3 p.m. Key speakers who will be in attendance are Dr. Haywood Robinson (former abortionist and 40 Days for Life Director of Medical Affairs and Education), Claire Culwell (abortion survive), and Jacquelyn Smith (Trisomy 18 Mom, Pro-Life Educator and Activist).

“Over 100,000 babies have been saved from abortion since the Texas Heartbeat law in 2021, and the overturning of court case Roe v. Wade in 2022. In Texas we love them both, the mother, and the child, and we will never go back to the barbaric days when 50,000 babies a year in Texas were having their heartbeats stopped by abortion,” Jonathan Saenz, president and attorney for Texas Values said.

In October 2023, two anti-abortion groups challenged the legality of the $500,000 in the Reproductive Justice Fund, allocated by the San Antonio City Council. The groups claimed the funding would be used for “abortion-trafficking,” or to provide funding for out-of-state abortion procedures. That same month, Lubbock County leaders also pushed back against out-of-state travel or transportation for abortion procedures by approving a local ordinance outlawing the use of country roads for out-of-state travel for abortions. The law also bans distribution of abortion medication and only apply to areas in the county that are not within city limits.
