
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at the high school on Wednesday afternoon.
EVERGREEN, Colo. — At least three students were shot Wednesday afternoon at Evergreen High School, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
St. Anthony’s Hospital confirmed to 9NEWS they have three patients from the shooting who are in critical condition.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said the shooting was first reported at 12:34 p.m. Wednesday. The shooting happened on school grounds, but it’s not known whether it was inside or outside the school, Kelley said.
She said the sheriff’s office doesn’t know yet the identification of the shooter or shooters, or where they are.
Jeffco Public Schools said Evergreen High School is on lockdown. The school is being cleared room by room.
The reunification center for families is Bergen Meadow Elementary School, at 1928 S. Hiwon Drive. The school district asked people to stay away from Evergreen High School.
Gov. Jared Polis said in a statement that he’s monitoring the situation and is getting live updates.
“State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation,” Polis said. “Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community.”
