LIVE OAK, Texas — A 41-year-old Live Oak man has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child following an investigation by Live Oak police.
According to an arrest affidavit filed in Bexar County, James Surre is accused of engaging in a relationship with a 16-year-old girl he met through the dating app Tinder. Court documents state the teen initially listed her age as 18 on her profile.
Investigators say the two communicated through the app before arranging to meet in person in October. Police allege Surre picked the teen up from school and drove her to his home in Live Oak for their first meeting.
According to court records, the teen told Surre during that meeting that she was 16 years old. Despite learning her real age, investigators say he continued seeing her.
The affidavit states the two met a total of six times. Authorities allege that during some of those meetings, Surre assaulted the teen. Court documents also indicate that some of the encounters were recorded on the teen’s cell phone.
Police say the teen later reported the incidents and provided evidence to investigators. After reviewing the information, Live Oak police obtained a warrant and took Surre into custody.
Surre was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He has since made bond.
