Grateful for the community’s support, Rudy Garza Sr. says he lost his home but has not lost everything.
SAN ANTONIO — Pathway Community Church members are uniting to support Rudy Garza Sr. who has been a member of the church for seven years. He lost his home on the 1200 block of West Harlan New Years Eve to a fire he believes was started by fireworks. Church members describe Garza as a man who’s always willing to help others. And now the church is hoping the community can give back to him.
“I heard rapid pounding, and I thought they were gunshots,” Garza said. “Well actually, they were banging on my door. A neighbor down the street saw the house next to me was up in flames.”
It was after midnight when Garza says a neighbor jumped over his fence to alert him of the flames next door. Garza and his 25-year-old son were able to safely escape the fire. Now, he’s picking up parts of his life.
Rudy Torres with Pathway Community Church – took the liberty of setting up the GoFundMe for Garza’s family.
“Rudy is a man of giving right he’s a man of God, that always [is] willing to help others,” Torres said. “He’s not one to ask for much, so why not give back to him?”
Torres says any donation helps – so far they’ve raised nearly $3,000.
Garza is keeping his faith in God as his family enters this new chapter of life.
“He’s always provided for me and I have no doubt that this is going to grow into something, something big and we’re going to see this miracle happen.”
