SAN ANTONIO — A local cofee shop near downtown is getting in on the excitment with the Spurs being in the playoffs as well as harkening back to a longtime San Antonio tradition.
After every playoff win, Eightball Coffee on St. Mary’s Street will be giving away a free 8 ounce drip coffeee, courtesy of Spurs player Keldon Johnson. The deal is for the next day after any Spurs playoff victory from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The coffee comes with a side of nostalgia, as longtime San Antonio residents will remember the tradition of Valero convenience stores offering free coffee the morning after a Spurs playoff win. The tradition lasted many years, until Circle K bought out the Valero brand and quietly ended the practice. The ending of the tradition coincided with a dry spell, as this is the first year the Spurs have even made the playoff since 2019.
The Spurs take on the Portland Trailblazers at the Frost Bank Center on Sunday.
