Three area Democratic congressmen are calling on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to establish the planned Western Hemisphere Command’s headquarters in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO — A memorandum for a Western Hemisphere Command center has several several Texas congressmen up in arms.
They sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanding Joint Base San Antonio be selected as the home base.
Secretary Hegseth’s memorandum directs the consolidation of U.S. Army North and U.S. Army South into a single command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
In that letter, lawmakers wrote, “Joint Base San Antonio already hosts the infrastructure, personnel, and community partnerships to support both Army North and Army South effectively. Transitioning these missions to a new location could result in avoidable costs and disruptions to long-standing institutional knowledge and trusted partnerships.”
