We’re now learning more about how they voted, and what they want people to know.
After a historic 43 days of the government shutdown, some that represent Texas on Capitol Hill, voted in support of the bill, while those that voted against it, called the spending bill “disastrous” and “shameful.”
Congressman Joaquin Castro had that reaction saying in part, “I voted no on this disastrous bill. The Republican party, with Trump at the helm, has done nothing to lower costs for families. They have wielded their power to line the pockets of the wealthy. I will continue to fight for the healthcare that Texans and people across the country need and deserve.”
Representative Tony Gonzales supported the new spending bill saying “Congress’ core responsibility is to deliver an annual budget. This is a step in the right direction, critical military, and VA projects, as well as USDA priorities, will receive full-year funding.”
Congressman Henry Cuellar, who is a Democrat, voted in support of the House bill. The bill was already poised to pass, regardless of his support.
“This agreement restores funding for snap and other assistance programs, ensures that federal workers, law enforcement, and our air-traffic controllers are paid, and reverses the recent federal layoffs caused by the shutdown,” said Cuellar. “Congress must extend the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits. If we fail to act, health-care premiums will spike for families across the country—including right here in South Texas, where too many are already stretched thin.”
