SAN ANTONIO — The season of giving is ringing true for SAPD park officer and veteran Jason Maldonado.
Maldonado nearly lost his life two days before Thanksgiving in a hit-and-run accident in Medina County. Unfortunately, that crash killed his 42-year-old wife, April.
The 100 Club of San Antonio and the PM Group are presenting a donation worth $10,000 to support the Maldonado family’s immediate needs during the holidays.
The deadly hit-and-run accident happened on Bexar County Road 375 when a truck veered off the shoulder, hitting Jason and his wife, April, while they were on their walk.
The accident shattered Jason’s right leg and fractured his ribs and pelvis.
April, Jason’s wife and a mother, didn’t survive the accident. She worked as a Bexar County probation officer.
Since then, Maldonado has undergone extensive surgery. As he embarks on his journey to recovery, he will need physical therapy and ongoing medical care, all while taking care of his four children.
The oldest is a high school senior, and the youngest is 10 years old.
With the loss of Maldonado’s wife, April, the 100 Club of San Antonio will provide an additional $2,500 to support the family.
The donation and press conference are set to take place at 10 a.m. Monday.
