SAN ANTONIO — Local philanthropist Harvey E. Najim is stepping up in a big way this holiday season to help ensure no child in San Antonio goes hungry.
Najim is partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank to underwrite three large-scale mobile food distributions focused on families with children in low-income households. The effort is expected to reach tens of thousands of children throughout December, providing critical food assistance during a time of year when many families struggle the most.
The seasonal “mega mobile” distributions are targeted to local school districts and designed to make sure families can focus on celebrating the holidays—rather than worrying about where their next meal will come from.
“Harvey Najim is a great champion for children in our community, and his support this December will help ensure no child will go to bed hungry,” said Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. “Harvey’s support this December is unprecedented in the nation.”
Families with children who need immediate food assistance are encouraged to pre-register and attend one of the distributions. Registration is required and can be completed through the San Antonio Food Bank’s website.
Volunteers are also needed to help serve families during the events. Those interested in giving back this holiday season can sign up to volunteer online.
The Harvey Najim Mobile Mega Holiday Distribution for families with children is Wednesday, Dec. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Alamodome.
Food bank officials urge families in need—and anyone who knows a family struggling—to help spread the word.
