Lockdown in place at Canyon Middle School in New Braunfels amid reports of a threat, police say

Comal ISD officials said students and staff are inside their classrooms with doors locked and following lockdown procedures. There are no reported injuries.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The New Braunfels Police Department issued a community alert saying there was an active scene at a local middle school on Friday morning.

According to officials. there was a heavy law enforcement presence on campus at Canyon Middle School around 10 a.m. due to a report of a threat.

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office along with NBPD, NBFD and other surrounding agencies are on scene actively working the incident.

A lockdown was initiated at the school around 9 a.m and remains in place. according to Comal ISD officials. Students and staff are inside their classrooms with doors locked and following lockdown procedures.

At this time, investigators say there are no reports of gunshots and no reports of any injuries.

Law enforcement is asking the public to avoid the area while officers remain on scene.
