Lockdowns lifted at Floresville ISD schools, WCSO investigating two separate incidents, officials say

The district says that students will be dismissed as regularly scheduled.

SAN ANTONIO — The lockdowns at the Floresville ISD schools have been lifted, according to officials with Floresville ISD.

According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office at around 11:45 a.m. authorities were alerted to a potential threat involving a student at Floresville High School, who was reportedly armed and making threats to staff.  

Multiple agencies responded including the WCSO, Floresville Police Department, Floresville ISD Police Department, Poth Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

Authorities said Floresville High School, South Elementary and Floresville Middle School were immediately placed on lockdown. 

“FISD Police and local law enforcement promptly responded to a report of a possible threat; however, no weapon was found at any campus during the safety checks conducted by our FISD Police and local law enforcement,” the district said.

The lockdowns were lifted around 1:30 p.m., and students are expected to be released at normal dismissal times.

Upon further investigation, authorities received a separate report about a student allegedly harming themselves at La Vernia Junior High School.  

The La Vernia Police Department and WCSO responded and discovered the student was no longer on campus and was safe. Authorities said the two incidents are related but didn’t specify how.  

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office will take the lead on the investigation, according to school officials.

As a precaution additional law enforcement will remain at the affected campuses. WCSO posted a statement on Facebook: 

“We are incredibly grateful for the swift action, professionalism, and collaboration demonstrated by all responding agencies, and we value our ongoing partnerships with Floresville ISD and La Vernia ISD.

The safety of our students, school staff, and community remains our highest priority. We will provide updates as they become available.” 

Earlier on Thursday, a message had been shared on the district’s Facebook page.

“We want to inform you that Floresville High School and Floresville South Elementary are currently under lockdown and Floresville Middle School is under a secure as a precautionary measure,” said the FB post. “FISD Police are on-site, and we are following all safety protocols. Please do not come to the school or call the main office at this time, as our priority is ensuring everyone’s safety. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”
