After a shaky first three weeks of the 2025 season, the Longhorns offense came alive, exploding for 55 points against the Bearkats.
AUSTIN, Texas — In their last game before starting SEC play, the Texas Longhorns finally had the offensive performance they’ve been looking for all season.
The Longhorns took care of business against the lowly Sam Houston Bearkats Saturday night, coming away with a dominant 55-0 shutout win at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium.
Entering the game, questions mounted surrounding the Longhorns offense, which – despite the team holding a respectable 2-1 record – has suffered its share of inconsistency and below average play this season. Notably, quarterback Arch Manning entered the game completing just over 55% of his passes on the season, with a lackluster performance against UTEP in the immediate rearview heading into Saturday night’s matchup.
Manning ended up putting on his best performance of the season, finishing with 309 yards and three passing touchdowns with only three incompletions, as well as two rushing touchdowns in two and a half quarters of work.
Saturday night also showcased a new rapport between Manning and wide receiver Ryan Wingo, which had not been prominent through the first three weeks of the season. Wingo finished as the game’s leading receiver, tallying 93 yards on four receptions while grabbing two of Manning’s touchdown passes.
Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson led the Longhorns in rushing, finishing with 62 and 53 yards, respectively, while tallying a touchdown each. Altogether, the Longhorns finished with 264 yards on the ground in the blowout win.
Overall, the Longhorns finished with a whopping 607 yards of total offense in the win.
Defensively, the Longhorns were once again outstanding, holding the Bearkats to just 113 yards of total offense. Jelani McDonald grabbed his second interception of the season in the win.
Saturday was the last time the Longhorns will play at DKR for over a month. The team now heads into a bye week ahead of their SEC opener against Florida on Oct. 4 in Gainesville. Following the matchup with Florida will be the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma in Dallas and two more road contests against Kentucky and Mississippi State, before the Longhorns finally return home to take on Vanderbilt on Nov. 1.
