SAN ANTONIO — His family and the Baseline Bums have announced that Joe Compean, one of the original San Antonio Spurs Baseline Bums, has passed away.
“Our deepest condolences to the family of Joe Compean. He was a long time Baseline Bum that had been a bum since the Hemisphere days. He was a huge Spurs fan. He will be missed.”
As part of the Bums, Compean was instrumental in cheering the team during games from the George Gervin era and the David Robinson years, able to see the Spurs hoist five NBA title banners and witness the beginning of the Victor Wembanyama era.
SPURS MERCHANDISE, WEMBY JERSEYS ARE TOP-SELLING NBA ITEMS
The NBA announced that Spurs team merchandise and Wembanyama’s jersey are among the top-selling items in the first half of the season. The data is based on NBAStore.com sales.
The Spurs merch came in at No. 9 ahead of the Bucks. Wemby’s No. 1 jersey ranked No. 5 ahead of Ja Morant, Luka Doncic, and league MVP Nikola Jokic.
Spurs merchandise is in high demand, especially in San Antonio, and the team ensures that demand is met.
This season, the Spurs have released a new City Edition jersey honoring the city’s 1968 World’s Fair and denim-inspired team gear.
In addition to the City Edition jerseys, the Spurs have also released a City Edition clothing line, including a long-sleeved tee shirt and baseball-inspired jersey. The clothing line has a 1970s sun-faded denim vibe.
