PARIS, France — The San Antonio Spurs unveiled design plans for a refurbished basketball court in Nanterre, France, as part of their Spurs Week Paris festivities.

Presented by Ledger, the court will be renovated through the “Play Paris” program, launched in 2025 to reflect the Spurs’ commitment to inspiring the next generation of athletes and creating safe, accessible play spaces across France.

The initiative is led by Spurs Give, the nonprofit arm of the Spurs, in collaboration with Ledger. The new court design was revealed during a ceremony at Palais des Sports Maurice Thorez attended by representatives from the city of Nanterre, as well as leadership from the Spurs, Nanterre 92 and Ledger.

The ceremony was followed by a free youth basketball clinic hosted by the Spurs Sports Academy in collaboration with Nanterre 92 coaches. The event included an appearance by former Spurs player Ian Mahinmi and the Spurs Coyote mascot.

“Today marks the next chapter, with Nanterre being one of the many important communities in our basketball journey,” Spurs CEO RC Buford said. “The courts we build through Play Paris symbolize our investment in the next generation of players who hope to follow in the footsteps of the global legends before them and elevate the game of basketball in France and beyond.”

The court’s design incorporates Nanterre 92’s signature green and black color scheme. Center court artwork will depict the clock tower of Le Chesnay, echoing the tribute featured at the first Play Paris court built in Le Chesnay and referencing tower imagery used in the Spurs’ 2023-24 City Edition uniforms.

The renovated space also will include a chess table as a nod to Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and his interest in the game. A matching table was installed at the inaugural Play Paris court in Le Chesnay, symbolizing his basketball journey from France to the NBA.

Renovations are scheduled to begin this spring and conclude by summer. Once completed, the court will be open to the public and is expected to host tournaments, youth clinics and free play. The Play Paris initiative aims to provide welcoming spaces for young athletes to develop leadership skills, build friendships and strengthen community ties.

“As a company founded in Paris, seeing the Ledger mark on the Spurs jersey here at home isn’t symbolic — it reflects the depth and seriousness of this partnership,” said Ariel Wengroff, Ledger’s executive vice president of communications and marketing. “Rebuilding the Nanterre court, where Victor’s journey began, is about investing in real infrastructure — in talent, in discipline, in the next generation. Whether it’s on the court or in the digital world, our role is the same: give people the tools and the control to own their future.”

The court unveiling is part of Spurs Week Paris, a weeklong series of events in and around the French capital featuring community programs, retail activations and fan engagement opportunities. The initiative is designed to strengthen cultural ties between Texas and France while supporting the Spurs’ broader efforts to grow the game of basketball internationally.
