LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the death of their child Friday.

“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th,” the couple posted to social media. “There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”

They named their daughter Sterling Sol Vesia. The post included a black and white photo of their hands stacked together with their daughters.

The post included a thanks to the Dodgers, the fans and the medical staff who helped Sterling and Kayla for their understanding and support.

“Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” the statement said. “Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”

The announcement comes a week after the team won the World Series in seven games against the Toronto Blue Jays. It was the Dodgers’ second straight World Series championship.

Ahead of the Dodgers’ appearance in Game 1, the team announced Vesia would be absent due to a “deeply personal family matter” but no other information was given.

Dodgers relievers wore Vesia’s No. 51 on their caps in a tribute to their absent teammate and fans wore his jersey in support. Blue Jays relievers joined them in the tribute for Game 6.

Vesia went 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 68 regular-season games. He is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in seven postseason appearances.
