Lyft driver accidentally hits and kills woman in northwest San Antonio, police say

Police have identified the 35-year-old woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon on the city’s inner northwest side.

SAN ANTONIO — Police have identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon on San Antonio’s inner northwest side.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the crash happened around 1:08 p.m. Saturday near the 1500 block of Bandera Road, close to the intersection with East Quill Drive.

Investigators say the driver was traveling southbound on East Quill Drive and attempting to turn west onto Bandera Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and went over the sidewalk.

Police say the vehicle struck Darlene Ibarra, 35, who was standing on the corner.

Ibarra suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Earlier information from officers indicated the driver was working as a rideshare driver at the time and told police he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while making the turn.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation, but it is currently not considered criminal.
