It’s unknown what initially sparked the incident, and police haven’t identified the suspect.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police patrol units, SWAT members and the K-9 unit could be seen at an east-side apartment complex as law enforcement looks for a machete-wielding man officials say they had been chasing.
The large-scale standoff is ongoing in the 4600 block of Dietrich Road, in the area of Loop 410 and North WW White. It’s unknown what initially sparked the foot pursuit with police, nor if the residence the suspect is occupying is his.
The standoff has been ongoing since about 1 p.m. Police personnel could be heard using a loudspeaker to urge the unidentified suspect to surrender.

A witness in the area recounted what he saw just before the barricade situation began.
“A dude with a knife, he was running and he goes, ‘I’m not afraid to die!’ He was waving it around,” the neighbor said. “That’s all I saw (before) I went back in.”
