Major accident on I-35 caused by likely road rage incident, SAPD says

Police are urging drivers to avoid the area and to find an alternate route.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police are responding to an apparent road rage incident that caused a major accident on the northeast side Monday afternoon.

Emergency responders were called to I-35 and Thousand Oaks around 3:30 p.m.

Police say a driver in a semitruck and a dark colored sedan got into a supposed road rage incident. The driver of the sedan pulled out a gun and shot the semitruck driver in the leg. A tourniquet was applied to the wound at the scene.

The semitruck driver was taken to a local hospital and the shooter was detained. The gun was also recovered at the scene, police say.

Police have gathered multiple witnesses and continue to investigate.

Authorities say all northbound lanes will be closed for the next few hours which may cause traffic delays, but they will be reopened as soon as possible.

Police are urging drivers to avoid the area and to find an alternate route.
