Making history! Roadrunners advance to NCAA Super Regionals with 7-4 win over Longhorns

UTSA defeated Texas for the third time this season and the second time this weekend to advance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

AUSTIN, Texas — The UTSA Roadrunners have made history, and they punctuated it with a huge victory over their in-state rivals.

The Roadrunners defeated the Texas Longhorns, 7-4, on Sunday night to win the program’s first NCAA Baseball Regional.

UTSA got out to an early lead by scoring two in the first inning and five more in the third. Texas chipped away with single runs in the fourth and eighth innings, then got two more in the ninth before the Roadrunners nailed down the final out.

UTSA now advances to their first ever NCAA Baseball Super Regional, where they will play the winner of the Los Angeles regional. UCLA and UC-Irvine’s game was ongoing Sunday night.

The Longhorns, the No. 2 national seed, played UTSA three times this season, including twice this weekend, and lost all three games.

The Roadrunners sent UT to the loser’s bracket with a 9-7 win Saturday. Texas defeated Kansas State on Sunday afternoon to set up the rematch with UTSA. The Longhorns would have needed to defeat UTSA twice in the double-elimination format to advance.

UTSA previously beat the Longhorns, 8-7 in 12 innings, on March 18 in their regular season match-up.
