Man accidentally shoots himself at North Texas volleyball tournament, drives to the hospital, police say

According to police, the gun was in the man’s back pocket when it went off by accident.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — A man accidentally shot himself at a North Texas volleyball tournament, police say.

Farmers Branch PD confirmed that a man attending the NTR volleyball tournament, which was held at the RYSE Energy StarCenter Multisport gym, accidentally discharged a gun that was in his back pocket and shot himself on Saturday. Police said around that time, a referee at the tournament called 911. FBPD told WFAA that witnesses said it was clearly an accidental discharge and spectators did not leave the area after the shot was fired.

The man drove himself to a local hospital, police confirmed. No other injuries were reported.
