KARNES COUNTY, Texas — A man wanted in connection with a road rage shooting and a multi-county chase is back in custody after turning himself in months after authorities say he was mistakenly released from jail.
Karnes County deputies say Abraham Ferrer had been on the run since November, when he was arrested in Gonzales County but later freed after posting bond, despite investigators saying he had outstanding warrants for other crimes.
Late last year, KENS 5 reported on Ferrer’s release, which deputies said happened in error.

The case stems from a shooting reported on Nov. 24 along County Road 356 and Farm-to-Market Road 792. Deputies say a 911 caller reported being shot at during a road rage incident.
As law enforcement responded, the caller told dispatchers that Ferrer had sped away toward the town of Helena.
Authorities later spotted him driving on the wrong side of State Highway 80 at speeds nearing 100 miles per hour, heading toward Nixon. The chase crossed multiple counties before Ferrer was eventually stopped and arrested by Nixon police.
Investigators say Ferrer later confessed to the shooting and told officers he threw the gun out of his window during the chase in McMullen County.
Despite that, deputies say Ferrer was released after posting bond in Gonzales County.
Karnes County deputies say they believed Ferrer had been staying with family and friends in both Karnes County and the Houston area before he recently turned himself in.
He is now being held in the Karnes County Jail. Officials say no bond has been posted.
