Luis Gonzales, who police say repeatedly violated the terms of his bond, peacefully surrendered after a standoff with police.
SAN ANTONIO — A man accused of several violent felonies is in custody again after police say he repeatedly violated the terms of his bonds.
Luis Gonzales, 45, was led away in handcuffs after a two-hour negotiation session ended peacefully on Monday night at Aloha Drive off North WW White Road.
Online records indicate his troubles began with a 2022 arrest for felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents reveal he was out on bond on that charge when he picked up three more charges after officers tried to arrest him in June 2024.
Police reports related to that arrest accuse Gonzales of refusing to surrender when they pulled him over for his outstanding warrant.
They said in the ensuing physical fight that involved punches and kicks, Gonzales tried to knock one officer to the ground, bit another officer on the hand and continued fighting after he was pulled from his vehicle.
The report says officers used leg cuffs on Gonzales to stop him from kicking them.
Online records indicate Gonzales walked out of jail three days later on bond but his freedom was short lived as he was arrested again in November, accused of violating the terms of his release.
A police report detailing his November arrest accuses Gonzales of trying to elude police in a vehicle until he was boxed in by a PIT maneuver, which is a tactic used to stop a fleeing vehicle by forcing it to spin out.
The report accused Gonzales of yelling profanities at officers while he refused to exit his vehicle. Officers wrote that they used a chemical agent and physically fought with Gonzales to remove him from the car and place him into custody.
After more alleged violations of bond conditions, police again placed Gonzales under surveillance.
The preliminary report on his Monday arrest said when officers saw Gonzales in his yard they approached him to make an arrest but he ran into his house.
The attempt to draw him out started around 6:30 p.m. when officers set up a perimeter on the ground with the help of aerial surveillance by the EAGLE helicopter.
Police say after two hours of calling out and encouraging Gonzales to surrender, he released several children from the home and gave up peacefully.
Gonzales remains in the Bexar County Jail facing five charges and bonds totaling $121.000.
