Sheriff Salazar says this is Roland Hernandez’s 25th arrest, his criminal history going as far back as 2002, according to jail records.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A man with an extensive criminal history has been arrested after “catcalling” a woman in a neighborhood and inciting a standoff, Bexar County officials say.
BCSO responded to a scene around the area of White Birch and Silver Maple around 1:30 p.m. Friday for a “neighborhood disturbance.”
According to officials, Roland Hernandez, 41, was allegedly catcalling a woman in the Coolcrest neighborhood. Somebody then confronted Hernandez, telling him not to do that. In turn, Hernandez allegedly started threatening the person and others around the area with a machete.
Hernandez then went back inside his home when BCSO arrived. Investigators then drafted up a felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Crisis nanoactuators then tried to get Hernandez out, which he was not responding to.
BCSO then started introducing tear gas into the home. When that didn’t work, the SWAT team attempted to enter the residence and that’s when Hernandez surrendered.
Sheriff Salazar says this is Hernandez’s 25th arrest. These charges include violent crimes as well as “serious” narcotics offenses.
Hernandez has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the incident.
A woman on scene, related to Hernandez, was also detained and will likely be charged with hindering apprehension. BSCO says she was getting in the way of the situation. She has not been identified at this time.
