Man accused of killing 11-month-old baby, injuring 2-year-old, to appear in court Friday

51-year-old Stephen Clare is charged with capital murder in the death of 11-month-old Willow Clare.

SAN ANTONIO — The man at the center of a deadly attack where a baby was killed in an upscale north-side neighborhood is set to appear in court.

51-year-old Stephen Clare is charged with capital murder in the death of 11-month-old Willow Clare. He is also facing charges, accused of stabbing her sister, Rosalie, who was 2-years-old at the time, and of shooting the girls’ mother, Mariah Gardner, multiple times. The attack happened on Robinhood Place near Alamo Heights in April of 2023.

Stephen Clare is expected in court Friday for a discovery hearing, which means both sides will share information with each other ahead of the criminal trial.

The actual trial date in the 437th District Court hasn’t been posted yet.  Pre-trial motions hearings are scheduled for mid-June and August to settle final matters before moving forward with the full trial.

Bexar County prosecutors have said they will pursue the death penalty in this case.  District Attorney Joe Gonzales filed the notice on behalf of the State of Texas back in February.
