Man accused of killing cousin at west-side family gathering, SAPD says

The victim was shot in the chest at close range.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has been accused of fatally shooting his cousin at a family gathering on the west side earlier this week, according to documents.

Ronnie Lee Regalado, 38, has been charged with the murder of 35-year-old Rudy Gumecindo Regalado.

On Monday, June 16, San Antonio police were called to the 300 block of North Pinto Street at West Travis Street around 5:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, police officers found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to an arrest affidavit, two witnesses provided police with video evidence of the shooting and were also eye-witnesses to the altercation. Ronnie was determined to be the shooter.

Police said the video showed Ronnie and the victim in an argument over property. In the video Ronnie is seen with a handgun.

The victim is also seen on camera screaming at Regalado to shoot him. The victim then approached the suspect and that’s when Ronnie shot the man in the chest at close range. Ronnie can be seen on video fleeing the scene in a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee, according to documents.

As the investigation continued, police learned the victim and Ronnie were cousins.

No other information was provided.
