Man accused of killing ‘King of the Hill’ actor Jonathan Joss headed toward trial

A pre-trial hearing is set for the man accused of shooting and killing actor Jonathan Joss outside his San Antonio home last June.

SAN ANTONIO — The case against the man accused of killing actor Jonathan Joss is moving forward, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez was indicted by a grand jury in November in connection with Joss’ death. Tuesday’s hearing marks the first major court update in the case since that indictment and is expected to focus on next steps as the case heads toward trial.

Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn on King of the Hill and appearing on Parks and Recreation, was shot and killed outside his home on Dorsey Street in June.

Neighbors previously told KENS 5 that Joss had lived on the street for years. His home had burned down earlier in 2025, but neighbors said he regularly returned to the property to pick up mail. When he was found shot, mail was scattered on the ground nearby.

Residents also described a longstanding feud between Joss and Alvarez, saying the two had argued for years and, at times, pulled weapons during confrontations.

According to a police report, Alvarez confessed to the shooting the night it happened.

The pre-trial hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. KENS 5 will continue to follow the case and provide updates as it moves closer to trial.
