Man accused of robbing 61-year-old woman at gunpoint arrested, police say

SAPD arrested Joshua Ray Vetter for allegedly robbing a 61-year-old woman at gunpoint, following anonymous tip.

SAN ANTONIO — A man accused of robbing a 61-year-old woman at gunpoint has been arrested, court documents say.

Joshua Ray Vetter, 31, is now facing an aggravated robbery charge, according to jail records.

On Sept. 26 at about 10:23 a.m., SAPD responded to a robbery in the 8000 block of North New Braunfels, near the Oak Park H-E-B.

A woman at the scene told police that a man threatened her with a black rifle, demanding the keys to her vehicle as she got in the front door. Out of fear, the woman gave the man her keys. At gunpoint, the man pulled the woman from the vehicle and forced her to the ground, according to an arrest affidavit.

The man unsuccessfully tried to start the vehicle, the affidavit says. He then threatened the woman again at gunpoint, demanding her money. She complied and gave the man about $50. The man then re-entered the vehicle and tried to start it again. That’s when the woman fled on foot, screaming for help.

The victim told police the man was small in frame, standing about 5’9″ 140 pounds. She also said he had neck tattoos and had a buzzed haircut. She said he was about 25-30 years ago.

Video footage from the scene showed a man entering the parking lot from North New Braunfels on a yellow bike. He was also carrying a blue golf bag. The timestamp depicts 10:18 a.m. as he entered the frame.

A canvass of the residential area resulted in detectives finding two long guns, the yellow bike and the golf bag.

Detectives later found out that these items were stolen during a residential burglary in the 100 block of Rockhill, less than a mile from the robbery scene. They believe this burglary also happened on Sept. 26 between 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Video footage from an apartment complex in the 800 block of Broadway showed a man jumping the fence and abandoning a rifle. Detectives later found out that this weapon was also stolen during a burglary. The video showed the same man as the robbery scene, according to police, having distinct tattoos all over his body.

On Oct. 2, after Crime Stoppers posted an image of the suspect to the community, an anonymous tip identified 31-year-old Joshua Ray Vetter as the suspect.

After investigation from detectives, Vetter was booked on an aggravated robbery charge the next day, according to jail records.
