Police in Southeast Texas are searching for a stolen 2025 Ford Mustang taken at gunpoint during a test drive in Silsbee.
SILSBEE, Texas — A 38-year-old man from Village Mills is in custody after allegedly pulling a gun on a car salesman and stealing a brand-new Ford Mustang from Silsbee Ford on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Justin Keith Colley was arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop on Highway 96 at County Road 729 just north of Buna, after a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle on patrol, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.
The incident began at approximately 2:07 p.m. when Colley visited Silsbee Ford on U.S. Highway 96 and requested a test drive of a white 2025 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT. Shortly after leaving the lot with a salesman in the passenger seat, Colley allegedly brandished a firearm near Silsbee Elementary School, forcing the employee out of the vehicle and fleeing northbound in the car.
The stolen Mustang, which still had dealer plates, was spotted around 3:30 p.m. by Deputy Jacob Spivey south of Buna. The deputy ran the license plate and discovered it was registered to a different vehicle. He called for backup, and deputies conducted a coordinated stop once additional units arrived.
“Because of his vigilance, this violent criminal will be off the streets of Southeast Texas and Jasper County,” Havard said of Deputy Spivey in a written statement.
Authorities say Colley was taken into custody without incident. He is expected to be returned to Hardin County to face a charge of aggravated robbery and will also face additional charges in Jasper County. Officials noted that Colley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
The Silsbee Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after the arrest, but the traffic stop and apprehension were carried out solely by Jasper County deputies, Havard said.
In a key break for investigators, Colley left his driver’s license behind at the dealership while filling out paperwork for the test drive, allowing authorities to quickly identify him.
