Man arrested after police chase in stolen vehicle leads to fiery crash in San Antonio, SAPD says

SAPD says the chase ended when the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle into an 18 wheeler near the intersection of Southwest Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has arrested two suspects after being led on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle before it ends in a fiery crash.

Around 9:50 p.m., officers were responding to a shooting in progress call when a vehicle failed to yield for police vehicles with their emergency lights on.

When the driver saw the police lights, he allegedly thought he was being chased because SAPD said the vehicle came up as stolen and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

SAPD said he increased his speed, starting a chase before it abruptly ended when he ran into the back of an 18-wheeler on Southwest Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road.

The driver fled the vehicle before being caught by police. SAPD says they recovered a handgun but aren’t certain if it belongs to the suspect or not.

The driver was arrested and wasn’t injured, but his girlfriend was in the passenger’s seat and suffered injuries to her chest.

Officials said the girlfriend had no warrants and allegedly had no clue she was riding in a stolen vehicle.

Police are still clearing the scene as this is an ongoing investigation.
