
Police have arrested Richardo Michael Haymon in connection to the fatal shooting of Ricardo Contreras at a west-side gas station.
SAN ANTONIO — A suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting that left a man dead and a car riddled with bullets outside west-side gas station
The fatal shooting happened just before 3 a.m. at the Chevron on Historic Old Highway 90 and South Acme Road.
An arrest affidavit identifies the suspect as 40-year-old Richardo Michael Haymon.
According to SAPD, the 36-year-old victim, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner as Ricardo Contreras, tried running from a car toward the front door of the store when he was shot.
When officers arrived, they found him shot once in the head and pronounced Contreras dead at the scene.
Records state when officers initially canvassed the crime scene, detectives discovered two shell casings in the parking lot, just north of the building.
Three more casings were found in the parking lot located just east of the gas station.
Investigators said what they believed to be the victim’s car at the scene was riddled with bullets.
The medical examiner on the scene found anther gunshot wound in Contreras’ back and a murder investigation was immediately initiated, according to the arrest affidavit.
After running the vehicle’s information, authorities said the vehicle was registered to Contreras’ mother.
Officers on the scene discovered the woman who called 9-1-1 was dating Contreras
The woman reportedly told investigators she had reported a family violence case back in June and named her ex-boyfriend, Haymon, as the man who assaulted her and now killed Contreras, the affidavit states.
The woman was taken to the station for further questioning when she allegedly revealed that she still had a relationship with Haymon as they had kids together.
Records state she admitted that Haymon and Contreras had been involved in previous arguments before the fatal shooting on Thursday morning.
The woman said she was talking to Contreras in the gas station’s parking lot when Haymon showed up and began arguing with Contreras.
At some point during the altercation, the woman told investigators Haymon pulled out a gun and opened fire.
When she turned around, the affidavit states she saw Contreras on the ground before running from the scene.
She told authorities that Contreras did not have a weapon on him during the incident.
Haymon was arrested and is facing a murder charge.
