Man arrested for alleged theft, accused of not completing home projects he was paid for

Neal Raymond Melendrez, 46, faces felony charges of theft, authorities said.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police and investigators arrested a man for theft Wednesday afternoon. 

Neal Raymond Melendrez, 46, faces felony charges of stealing between $2,500 and $30,000 authorities said. 

On October 2 Melendez was hired to build a metal car port. He requested a $5,200 dollar deposit and installed nine metal posts during the project. The victim tried to contact Melendrez to finish the project but was unsuccessful.  Melendrez had requested another $3,100 dollars for a total of $8,300. Melendrez did not return to complete the job. 

Then on October 6 Melendrez was hired to build a patio. The victim paid Melendrez $2,000 and then Melendrez requested two more checks of $1,300 dollars. Melendrez did not finish the project. The victim tried getting a hold of Melendrez but never got a response. 

Police said a similar incident happened in 2021 but they did not have a lot of details. Authorities said a victim hired Melendrez work on a project at a house. Melendrez never finished the project. 

According to authorities Melendrez tried to intimidate the victims and told them he would sue them. 

SAPD is asking the public to come forward if they have any information about this man. SAPD believes there are several victims. 

During his perp walk Melendrez said he was not guilty.
