A man is accused of harboring a runaway after deputies found a missing girl at a property on the far west side, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after deputies located a missing juvenile at a property on the far west side, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
BCSO said deputies responded around 10:16 a.m. April 1 to conduct a follow-up investigation in the area of Potranco Road between Grosenbacher Road and West Loop 1604 North. Authorities had received information that the missing juvenile might be staying with a male subject at the location.
According to investigators, a deputy first made contact with an adult female at the property who identified herself as a relative of Jared Ortiz. She directed deputies to a small residential structure located behind the main residence.
Deputies then spoke with an adult male who also identified himself as a relative of Ortiz. He told deputies he had not seen Ortiz in about two days but accompanied them to the rear structure, BCSO said.
When deputies knocked on the door, Ortiz answered, stepped outside and closed the door behind him, according to officials. A deputy informed him they were investigating a report that a juvenile female might be staying there.
Investigators said Ortiz told deputies he had seen a female walking in the area the night before and described her appearance. When asked directly whether the juvenile was inside, Ortiz denied she was there and declined to give deputies consent to enter the structure.
According to BCSO, a deputy then called out the juvenile’s name and a female voice responded from inside, confirming her identity.
Ortiz was detained and deputies located the juvenile inside the structure, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said. She was escorted to the front of the property and EMS was requested to evaluate her medically.
Ortiz was later booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a charge of harboring a runaway, according to BCSO.
