In a three-day span, the bodies of two individuals were found dead in separate apartments at the same complex. It’s unknown if both murders are connected.
SAN ANTONIO — In the span of just three days, authorities performed two welfare checks at a downtown-area apartment complex. Both ended with officials finding dead bodies. Now, police have a suspect.
On Oct. 4, police responded to the 400 block of Barrera after receiving reports of a deceased person found in an apartment. A preliminary investigation unveiled that the person had been shot and shell casing were collected as evidence before leaving the scene.
Days earlier, on Oct. 1, a separate murder had taken place at the same apartment complex, which led detectives to believe they might have the same suspect for both crimes.
The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Daniel Gonzalez and when detectives went to interview him, they found Gonzalez with a handgun. SAPD said Gonzalez is a prior felon and arrested him for felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities said the shell casings found at the scene were linked to the gun Gonzalez was in possession of. Surveillance video reportedly showed Gonzalez at the complex on the date of the murder.
An arrest warrant for murder was issued to Gonzalez while he was still in custody at the BCSO Jail.
Gonzalez is facing a murder charge, but detectives said they have reason to believe he was also responsible for the murder that took place on Oct. 1, but that case remains under investigation.
