Man charged for alleged threats to police chief, dispatcher, and family

Authorities say the man called 911 several times claiming his son was in danger before threatening to kill the dispatcher and Police Chief William McManus.

SAN ANTONIO — A Texas man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to kill San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

On June 19, police say 45-year-old Ruben Martinez called 9-1-1 several times claiming his son was in danger before threatening to kill the dispatcher and McManus. The affidavit went on to state that Martinez also threatened to kill his family.

This is the second threat against the chief.

Court documents released contain a transcript of what Ruben Martinez reportedly said on the phone to dispatchers. Those threats centered on Martinez claiming his son was in danger.

Martinez allegedly called on June 19, saying he had called multiple times to report his son was in danger, and no one had done anything to help, saying that if no one helps him, “I’m gonna walk down and kill you, every single person in the call center.”

Once he was transferred to the supervisor, Martinez allegedly continued to berate him, according to arrest paperwork. But it wasn’t until the third call to 9-1-1 where he angrily told dispatch, “I am going to kill the chief of police.”

He reportedly said it again, and in a fourth phone call continued to threaten the department as well.

Martinez was arrested and is facing charges for making a terroristic threat against a police officer. He is currently awaiting trial.

This is a developing story.
