Man charged with 2022 murder of former tenant in San Antonio, documents say

Ford is being held without bond.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested and charged with murder nearly three years after police say he shot and killed his former tenant during an argument in San Antonio

Court records state that Joshua Ford called police himself after allegedly shooting Michael Martin in the face back on December 7, 2022. Despite reporting the incident at the time, Ford was taken into custody this week and is now being held without bond.

According to San Antonio police, Ford told investigators Martin had fallen behind on rent for two months before he moved out. Ford told police he asked Martin to return to the home to drop off a key. When Martin showed up unexpectedly as Ford was checking the property, the two began arguing.

Ford claimed Martin reached toward his body as if he was grabbing something, leading Ford to believe he had a weapon. Police say Ford then pulled out his handgun and shot Martin in the face, killing him.

Investigators say Ford removed the magazine, unloaded the weapon and placed it on the kitchen island before leaving the home and calling 911.

Ford is charged with murder – intentionally causing death. The case remains under investigation.
