A suspected robber faces charges of aggravated robbery accused of stabbing a man during a violent encounter at a San Antonio smoke shop, police report.
SAN ANTONIO — A robbery at gunpoint on San Antonio’s northwest-side turned violent Monday afternoon, ending in a stabbing and the arrest of a suspect, according to an arrest warrant.
Police say the incident happened at the Planet 4/20 smoke shop off West Avenue.
According to investigators, 54-year-old Marcus Dees walked into the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the register.
After getting the cash, police say Dees then demanded both victims hand over their cell phones. One victim complied, but the other refused. That’s when the situation escalated.
According to the warrant, Dees ran out of the store and the second victim followed, attempting to get back the stolen money and phone. Investigators say a struggle broke out in the parking lot.
During that fight, police say Dees stabbed the 23-year-old victim, causing serious bodily injury. Despite being injured, the victim tried to continue after the suspect but collapsed a short time later. A witness who saw what happened followed the suspect and called 911, providing officers with key details, including a license plate.
Detectives say that information, along with surveillance video, helped them identify Dees as the suspect.
He was later taken into custody and booked into jail. Dees is now facing a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
The injured victim was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. His condition has not been released.
