Police say 23-year-old Brayan Lopez-Esparza shot two people Sunday morning at a home on Rasa Drive and Tarasco Street, including his father.
SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to a shooting involving his father, according to documents.
Police say 23-year-old Brayan Lopez-Esparza shot two people Sunday morning at a home on Rasa Drive and Tarasco Street.
At about 6 a.m., SAPD responded to a shooting. Once there, they found two gunshot victims. One of the victims was 45-year-old Jorge Lopez, who was shot in the chest with life-threatening injuries. The other was an unnamed man who had been shot in the foot. Officers learned that Lopez was the father of Lopez-Esparza.
After a night of drinking, a woman contacted Lopez-Esparza, who she has a child with. They then met up at her grandmother’s house.
Her current partner also went to the grandmother’s house. When he got there, he caught the woman with Lopez-Esparza.
According to police, the woman and her partner started to have an argument, and Lopez-Esparza got involved.
The partner and Lopez-Esparza then started physically fighting outside the home. The partner drove away, and the woman and Lopez-Esparza left together.
Police say the three met up at another location, where the partner learned that the woman was the one looking for Lopez-Esparza that night.
The partner returned to the grandmother’s house. This is when Lopez-Esparza’s parents, including Jorge Lopez, showed up to pick up their grandchild, who they put in their truck.
At that time, Lopez-Esparza arrived, without the woman. The partner’s siblings approached Lopez-Esparza and started arguing with him. Both of Lopez-Esparza’s parents went over to try to calm him down. That’s when everyone started to walk away from the confrontation.
As the partner got into his vehicle, he allegedly made a future threat towards Lopez-Esparza’s son. He then got in his vehicle and began to drive away.
As he did, Lopez-Esparza retrieved a gun from his vehicle and began firing towards the partner’s vehicle where the crowd was made up of both families. Police say the partner tried to run over Lopez-Esparza with his vehicle to try to stop the shooting but was unsuccessful.
The suspect continued shooting about 16 times in total, according to police. One of those bullets hit his father, Jorge Lopez, while he was standing next to his truck, which caused him to fall to the ground. Another man, the partner’s brother, was also shot in the foot, causing serious bodily injury.
Lopez-Esparza fled the scene in his vehicle after the shooting.
Both victims were taken to the hospital. Lopez was pronounced dead at about 10:20 a.m. while in surgery.
Lopez-Esparza has also been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.
