SAN ANTONIO — A 34-year-old man is dead and four others hospitalized after a “physical altercation” between two groups outside a San Antonio bar devolved into a shootout, according to police officials.
A 24-year-old man who authorities said is in critical condition is considered a suspect after he and the 34-year-old allegedly started shooting at each other in the chaos outside the Aura Bar & Lounge, at the Colonies North Shopping Center on Ironside Drive on the northwest side.
San Antonio police responded there around 12:45 a.m., where they found five people shot.
According to a preliminary report, the unidentified 34-year-old man “saw the altercation” unfolding and took out his gun. He then started “shooting towards one of the groups in the patio area of the bar.” Police said he hit three victims—a 19-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 29-year-old man.
The still-unidentified 24-year-old suspect noticed the commotion and “pulled out his own firearm and began shooting towards the (34-year-old) suspect,” police said. Officials believe they both ended up shooting at and hitting each other.
It’s unclear what led up to the initial argument, nor how close either of the two alleged shooters are to the parties that were involved.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission say it’s opened an investigation into the incident.
